The French Football League has suspended Malian and AS Monaco’s star Mohamed Camara for four games after the player covered the LGBTQ+ promotional logo on his Jersey during a game.
Following the incident, The French Sports Minister had called for “the strongest sanctions” against the 24-year-old Malian star.
The Malian Federation on their part have also ridiculed the minister’s comment and issued a statement in support of the player.
“It is important to remember that players are citizens like any others, whose fundamental rights must be protected in all circumstances,” the Malian Federation stated.
Over the years, the French Federation has been widely criticized for violating rights of players who refused to take part in promoting a lifestyle that’s against their culture and values.
