Equatorial Guinea’s Vice President Accuses Spain of Extortion

In what seem to be a recurring experience among many Africans, the Equatorial Guinea’s Vice President Teodoro Obiang Mangue has also weighed in by accusing the Spanish embassy and its visa application agency of extorting Equatoguinean citizens. In a post on X, Obiang Mangue claimed that the agency collected payments for applications it knew it would deny and failed to pay taxes to the national government.

“It is clear that the refusal to issue visas to Equatoguineans is a place created by the Spanish in Malabo to extort money from the population and profit from their savings,” Obiang Mangue stated.

He also tagged the X handle of the Spanish embassy, saying, “The agency created by @EmbEspMalabo for visa management has a double pending task with #GuineaEcuatorial. On the one hand, it must return the money illegally collected in the last 4 years for collecting visas denied to Equatorial Guineans without justification.”
