In attempts to make up for the dark colonial history, France has in recent times been training its African ambassadors to help rebuild relationship with the continent.
These ambassadors, the likes of Anne have been tasked to implement the new policy, reselling France to the youth in particular.
Her elevation to the continental level follows her fast-growing influence in the Ghanaian society. Anne’s strategy in getting the attention of Ghanaian youth was focused on the entertainment industry, feeding into the influence of celebrities.
Her embassy grants frequent visas to popular figures to host shows in France. Additionally, she has been a regular guest at most entertainment programs in Ghana.
Despite her supposed success in Ghana, critics doubt the potentials of her strategy at the continental level. Points were built from the diverse colonial experiences of African countries.
Ghana was colonized by the British. An effective French policy in Ghana may produce a different effect in the democratic Republic of Congo which had a first-hand experience of the Brutish French Colonizers.
Moreover, African youth, especially citizens of former French colonies have expressed their concerns, stating clearly that, reparations and formal apologies are of essence in this conversation.
What do you think of the French strategy? Do you think France can find love in Africa just by training and deploying Ambassadors?
