Senegal’s new gov’t is set to roll its Pan-African agenda and strengthen ties with Mali, Niger, Burkina Faso etc.

Senegal’s New Pan-African leadership recently announced its readiness to accelerate its Pan-African and national sovereignty agenda. In a recent Facebook, Ousman Sonko, Senegal’s Prime Minister and founder of PASTEF (a Pan-African movement) wrote:

“We chaired the first meeting of the party Politburo, after more than a year of interruption independent of our will. We give thanks to the Lord and greatly thank the Senegalese people for the provisional conclusion of our struggle, with the election of brother Bassirou Diomaye Diakhar Faye to the supreme judiciary of our Republic.” Sonko stated as he praised the Senegalese people for their fight and push back against the imperialist system.

However, the young Pan-African leader recognizes that the road to total liberation could be rocky as evidenced in Africa’s past liberation struggle when upright leaders like Sankara, Lumumba, Kwame, Modibo Keita etc were victimized by powers whose sole objective is to see Africa remain controlled.

“Our real struggle has just begun that of the liberation of the Senegalese people through the success of our fight for sovereignty, good governance and the fair and equitable redistribution of our wealth.PASTEF will be the spearhead of this new episode of our joint adventure. All I can promise you is that WE WILL SUCCEED, by the grace of God.”

Sonko Further assured his countrymen that their government is ready to work with other countries in the sub-region he specifically named Mali, Burkina Faso, Guinea Conakry and Niger.

“On another register, the party will assume its pan-Africanist and sovereignty option, by strengthening its political partnerships at African and sub-regional levels. To this end, we are planning a tour, at the invitation of our partners, that should start with the steps of Guinea Conakry, Mali, Burkina Faso and Niger.”

Sonko equally elaborates that Senegal will continue to work with the rest of the world by warming existing relations and exploring the many new demands from all continents.
