Uganda Airlines just made travel between East and West Africa a whole lot easier! The airline recently launched direct flights between Entebbe and Abuja, cutting down the long travel time from 14 hours to just 3 hours and 30 minutes. That’s a game-changer for both business and leisure travelers.
This new route, which started last Friday, offers twice-weekly flights straight from Entebbe to Abuja. It adds to the airline’s existing service to Lagos, Nigeria’s commercial powerhouse, which took off last year. Uganda’s High Commissioner to Nigeria, Nelson Ocheger, has expressed a positive enthusiasm that this would create a stronger ties this will bring between East and West Africa.
“This direct flight isn’t just about convenience—it’s about connecting people, businesses, and boosting trade. We’re looking at better movement of goods, lower transport costs, and more job opportunities,” Ocheger said.
Before this, travelers had to go through with layovers in Lagos or other East African hubs. But now it’s smooth flying, in this case. Whether it’s for business, leisure, or even education (Uganda’s got a growing number of Nigerian students), this direct connection is a major win for everyone.
Uganda Airlines is also keeping it affordable with economy tickets priced at $600 and business class at $1,665 for the Abuja-Entebbe route – perfect for encouraging more travelers to take advantage of this new opportunity.
Festus Keyamo, Nigeria’s Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, echoed this excitement, emphasizing how critical aviation is for Africa’s growth. “This is a huge moment for us. Direct flights like these will not only boost trade and business but also support regional cooperation,” he said.
This move also lines up with the African Union’s vision of enhancing connectivity across the continent, thanks to the Single African Air Transport Market (SAATM) initiative.
